About (Back Cover)Shayaree-e-Zindagee—Poetry for Life is a treasury of some of the best Urdu poetry, over five hundred hand-picked couplets have been thoughtfully divided into seventeen chapters. Each couplet has been meticulously presented in Devnagri as well as in English transliteration to enable readers to enjoy the recitation of the couplets as well as appreciate their meaning. Showcasing greats such as Ghalib, Firaq, Zauq to Iqbal, Majaz and Jigar Moradabadi, this gem is the perfect companion for both the initiated and uninitiated lovers of Urdu poetry.

My Thoughts: Poetry for Life is a wonderful book that brings together some of the most celebrated couplets. The book itself is divided in 17 sections each that has couplets of eminent Urdu poets which make this book a collective book on my bookshelf. Anyone who loves the language for its charm from the good old days would enjoy this book. It is a fantastic book in red with gold lettering that has smart cover to stay unharmed for carrying around at all times. I can only imagine it being around for re-reads on train journeys for readers to reflect upon, occasionally smile and find themselves cherishing life.

My Favourite parts in the book: My favorites are many, however, some of the most captivating ones are from Dreams, Promise, Memory & Destination. I love the particular section in book that has ‘dohe’ about Dreams – all of them are beautiful.

I love how this book has all of them translated in English.

Going to stay on my Bookshelf? Yes. The compilations are worth being on a bookshelf. This for sure stays on my bookshelf for anyone to borrow and enjoy. I am sure the borrower would want a copy of their own!

A small part of me wished that Urdu typing was there in the book too.
